If you read my last blog you will know that I love buying vintage. This includes clothing, jewelry, home furnishings or interesting chachkas. These two items came from a great shop on the west side of Vancouver. The punchbowl, made of turquoise milk glass, is probably from the 30s but I have been told it could be a late as the 40’s or 50s.  The punch bowl has a grapevine pattern and comes with 10 matching cups. Although I am very drawn to the colour and shape of the bowl, I can’t justify paying the hefty $750 price tag. When I shop vintage I am looking for really good deals!
The chandelier has hanging crystal golf balls mixed with circular chrome details giving the light a modernist look. This light would definitely add some sparkle to any modern room. What do you think?
Had any interesting vintage buys lately? Â I’d love to hear about them!
Hi,
I am down sizing from a cottage in the Cove to a condo on Main street. I am looking to sell or consign a bunch of depression era glass, china and some really great furniture. (everything in my home is pre WW2, except the computer!!) Any suggestions on where I should take it?
Thanks for your time.
Beth
Oh and fun blog!!
Hi Beth,
You are moving to the right part of town to consign your treasures. Main street is rich with antique shops between16th and 25th Avenues. This area in now known as ‘Antiques Row’ with stores featuring traditional antiques and 20th century nostalgia, to art deco accessories and ’60s kitschy retro items. One store that comes to my mind is ‘Baker’s Dozen’. This store has such an electic mix of collectables that my daughter was able to find a Mr. Peanut costume there for a movie she was making.
There is also a very good consignment store on Dunbar called ‘Upscale Garage Sale’. I have bought a few things there and the store carries glassware, as well as, china. The other place I often frequent is the ‘Sellution’ (also on Main Street). It is a very popular consignment store. I also recommend you go to the Kerrisale Antique Fair, which is happening September 3 & 4, 2011, from 10am-5pm. You could connect with a few vendors there and tell them about your collectables. Good luck to you and thanks for contacting me.
